Marise Thompson who was given the name Rose Marie or Ti Rose by her late aunt, Madame Clemande, Modi. Marise was born on December 29, 1953 to Gabriyel "Papa Fene" Thompson and Sassefie Thompson in the beautiful Island of Haiti. Marise was a woman of God. Even in her last breath she asked for Prayer from her Pasteur Dieudonne and Praise and Worship Music as she made her peaceful transition.
Marise was a child of God living on earth and carrying the Holy Spirit
Friends and Family who were able to witness her love, jokes, honesty, and really felt the presence of God when they were with her. Her love of God led her to attend several church services during the week, visiting nursing homes and hospitals to make prayer for those who were sick. One of the most important values in Yoruba Culture is called Iwa Pele which means Good or Gentle Character. Marise exemplified good character through her faith in God, kindness, thoughtfulness and care for others.
Marise was love
After Highschool, Marise married and began raising her family starting with her two daughters, Esther and Naomi. She was very specific to give all of her children Biblical names. In 1984, Marise migrated to the United States with an opportunity to make a living economically to support her children and family who were in Haiti.
Her Migration story continued from Haiti to Florida where she worked and then finally landed in Cambridge, MA where she continued her journey of raising her family. After an unexpected divorce and profound pregnancy she found herself becoming a single parent, with the support of God the Most High, she did that! She birthed her third daughter, Ruth. Marise worked hard for all of her children and provided so much love, care and instilled the value of prayer and hardwork into each of their lives.
Marise was a warrior, a leader of truth and Organizer
Marise worked hard to provide for all of her children. She worked many different jobs but her most passionate job was being a mother, grandmother and entrepreneur. She was a marketplace woman, who would be found selling household items and goods at local flea markets and antique shops. Marise recently celebrated 25 years of working as a clerk at Stop and Shop in Watertown, MA. She supported her Local Union 1445 by organizing workers to obtain fair wages and treatment in the workplace.
Marise will be remembered by her family as a Fanm Saj, a Wise Woman and a Fanm Vayan, a Woman of Strength who loved to bring family and friends together to cook, tell beautiful stories, share advice, and life lessons. One of which is "Priye, Veye", Pray and be watchful and another saying “Bondieu Kon Fe Rote”, God will make a way…
